Facebook stories are the least stable Facebook media type for downloaders. They expire, they can be audience-limited, and they often require an active session to view.

The story expired

Stories are temporary. Once the story is gone, a downloader usually cannot recover the media from the old link.

If you need a story, copy and resolve the link while it is still visible.

Three tools to try while it is live

If the story is still public, compare a few story-aware tools. Some can read story URL formats better than others.

If all three fail, the story is probably private, expired, or not exposing a direct file.

The story is not public

A story can be visible to you because you are logged in, while still being unavailable to a public downloader.

Downloaders should not bypass friends-only, private, or restricted visibility.

The link points to the wrong thing

Profile links, story tray links, and old session links can confuse resolvers. Copy the direct story link again if Facebook still shows it.

If the downloader identifies a story but shows no author or media, Facebook likely withheld the public media data.
